Type 01s: Desert boots the way they used to be made. Designed in England. Handmade in Italy.
Our Type 01 desert boots in the Hutton signature English Tobacco reverse calf suede.
Truth be told, when we created the Hutton Playtime, not only did we fall deeply in love with the boot itself, we also fell head over heels for the impeccible leather from which our Hutton Playtime is made.
This obsession led to curiousity, and we couldn't shake the idea of elevating our Type 01s by having them made out of reverse calf.
True reverse calf is made of superior leather hides that would only be used for the highest grade leather shoes made by the world’s top makers.
It is cashmere soft, fits like a glove, and has an essence that's hard to describe in words. And when you put it on your feet, you just know how different it is.
It is currently and has always been one of the most expensive leathers available because of how much more difficult it is to produce. Few tanneries across the globe produce calf leather.
When it is used to make the highest grade leather shoes, calf leather is almost exclusively used facing out, rather than on the suede side - or rough out as it's sometimes called.
Because calf is so special, this makes sense - you want to show it off, and not many can tell the difference between regular leather suede, and high-end calf leather suede.
But we know the difference. We can feel the difference, and we know you can, too.
And so we chose to make the Type 01 in this hyper luxury leather as well - not knowing exactly what we'd see since reverse calf desert boots may never have been produced before - we certainly know no examples.
Obsesessed doesn't even begin to describe how we feel about the result.
It shines through in the pictures - that leather is spectacular.
But the difference is even more overwhelming when you hold it in your hands, when you feel it on your feet.
Comfortable is an understatement. Sometimes they feel like the hug of the softest fabric imaginable, other times you feel almost like they aren't even there.

All Hutton footwear is handmade in Italy, in a hundred year old family-owned factory where they've made crepe-sole boots and shoes since the 1960s.
Can you tell me more about Hutton's signature blonde crepe soles?
Many boots feature crepe soles, but not all crepe is created equal.
In this day and age, most shoe companies will choose the cheapest crepe to use in the production of their shoes and boots.
The option is chosen to check a box, so the consumer sees "crepe" and assumes quality.
But when we choose our materials, we choose to skip past the lower tiers.
At Hutton, we refuse to settle for offering even second best - our blond crepe soles are, quite literally, the best of the best, and the only option we see fit to use.
What about the leathers and other materials used in your footwear?
Each and every Hutton boot and shoe - no matter the colouration - is made of premium quality, locally sourced, Italian leather.
The leather is dyed and tanned by hand - using only natural, vegetable-tanned - a process that happens in Italy as well.
As a result, all of our materials are ethically and responsibly sourced. They are also environmentally friendly, as they are hand-made in Italy using locally sourced materials.
We use expensive, vegetable tanned leather that doesn't require heavy metals, such as chrome, in the process.
All the solvents used to make the boots are water-based, so they do not poison the factory workers.
Even the stitching on every pair is made from cotton sourced from the same region as our factory.

When it comes to the care and maintenance of our footwear, there are no requirements.
Brand new, out-of-box, our boots are ready-to-wear and created to be worn and used for years to come.
